February [F]oto Frenzy

Obviously, I know how to spell “photo,” but I thought you would appreciate the alliteration 🙂  It’s the little things, right?

Recently, we have had a TON of snow.  Granted, it may not be the volume of snow some places in the world are used to, but for these parts, it’s a lot!  In one day, we got nearly 12 inches, and then only a couple of days later we got another 8 inches.  It’s also cold enough that most of it is sticking around for a while.  I haven’t taken the opportunity to build any snowmen yet, but I plan on getting around to it before it’s all gone.

Actually, the first day that it snowed like this, I was out and about.  I was driving in snow that was falling so thickly I could barely see a few feet in front of my car.  Why would anyone do that?  What could have been so important that anyone would bother leaving their house in blizzard-like conditions?  I had a hearing.  It was pretty important to my clients.  Yes, the judge called me when I was almost to the court house to tell me that he could continue the hearing if I wanted — to which I replied, NO!!  I am almost there!!  I was proud of myself for not actually screaming at him when I had already been in the car for two hours at that point.  It took me three hours to get home from that hearing.  Yeesh.

Look at my trooper of a car.  This little honda has done amazingly well in this crap-tastic weather.  I’m so proud of it!  On Tuesday this week, we had the extra 8 inches of snow.  This snow was different from the first snow in that it was wetter, and therefore more sticky and dense.  It started doing silly things like weighing down power lines and trees.  You probably know where I’m heading with this.  In the KC area, an estimated 106,000 people lost their power during Tuesday’s snow storm.  Our house was one of the lucky 106,000 to lose power.  It was gone for a full 30 hours.  Luckily, I have an amazing brother, dad, and friends who saw me through the power outage in style.

I really wish snow days were still as fun as they were when I was a kid.  I thought about going sledding, until I realized I would be returning to a freezing house and would therefore be unable to warm myself back up.  Developing the ability to think things through to their consequences takes all the fun out of them!

These are some random pictures I took of a meal I made not too long ago.  I made some bbq pull-a-part chicken in a slow cooker, and above is a picture of the balsamic glazed onions and bell peppers that were heading into the oven, and ended up serving as a fabulous garnish to the chicken.  Below is the sandwich upon completion, along with some potatoes I baked until they were nice and crispy.  Yummm.

So that is my February Photo Frenzy (spelled it right this time, just for you).  Hope you liked it!
