Year End Review

I was recently reminded that I have a blog, and that I should probably use it sometimes.  Lately I’ve been thinking I might reformat this little blog of mine.  While I still love the “sagacious student” concept, I started that in law school, and I’m thinking there’s a better title out there to describe me these days.  Just a heads up, changes are a-comin!

I can’t believe it’s already the end of December, and nearly the end of another year.  2013 was a bit crazy, to say the least.  Let’s see if I can remember some of the bigger moments…

(1) I won my first trial to start out the year on a good foot.  I’m sure to most people it would have seemed like a slam dunk, but I was thrilled with even a small victory!  Heck, I had to cross-examine someone on the stand!  There was also a hearing in February that I made it to, despite the literal blizzard happening at the same time.  I was glad I made it though, the judge pretty much gave me whatever I wanted!  I just wish it hadn’t then taken me 3 hours to make it back home afterward.

(2)  In March, I was matched with my little sis through Big Brothers Big Sisters.  Her name is Shaznae, and she is a handful!  We’ve had quite a bit of fun though!  We’ve been to see the Royals and the Chiefs, we’ve gone to the park and flown kites, we’ve gone to the Indian Mission and shot bows and arrows, Shaznae had her first horse ride, we’ve been to the zoo a couple of times, once just to see the penguins…I know there’s more, but those are the highlights!

(3)  I turned 28 this year, and had a pretty incredible birthday celebration.  Not only did I get to go to Vegas with my sister for the first time, but I also got to come back and go to my first concert at Sprint Center to see the Black Keys.  Couldn’t have asked for better!

(4)  Then, sometime in May, my house hunt got pretty intense.  I was ready to move out, come hell or high water!  It all moved rather quickly, and I think I chronicled the purchase adventure fairly well already.  The result was that by July 13th, I was moving in to my brand new house, and declared myself a homeowner!

With my moving out, and taking my cat with me, my dad really needed a new friend around, and so he found Iggy.

This is pretty typical Iggy — she has a thing for feet.  Also, this was pretty much the day he got her, and her belly was shaved from her recent spay surgery, so don’t be alarmed!  All her fur has grown back by now.  She’s not really much bigger though.

(5)  Before the ink had even dried on my real estate contract, my family and I headed up to Montana to visit some of my family who live in St. Regis, Montana.  It was absolutely gorgeous up there.

We saw the Bison Range, and Glacier National Park.  For some reason, I was majorly allergic to something up there and felt like I had a cold almost the whole time I was there.  That’s certainly not going to stop me from trying again someday!

(6)  I have joined the Junior League of Kansas City, and that has led to quite a few new and great experiences.  I have gotten to go on tours of several institutions in KC and learn about their history and roots in KC — places like the zoo, Union Station, CCVI, and more.  For instance, did you know that as of October 2014, it will be Union Station’s 100th anniversary?  Plus, I have gotten to participate and volunteer with several different organizations in Kansas City.  Community Service has never been so rewarding.  I am also in a dinner club through Junior League, and while we’ve only met once so far, it was really fun!  Junior League has definitely been a commitment, but I am meeting so many great new people, it is all worth it in my opinion.

(7)  Thanksgiving this year brought some fantastic news with it — namely that my big sister is expecting her first child!  I am very excited to be an aunt, and I know she’ll make a great mother.

I may have to do a part 2, because I’m running out of steam here…

I’m hoping to finish up a lot of baking tomorrow, and it looks like it’s snowing!  Crossing my fingers for a white xmas.  To be continued my friends.  Happy Holidays!
