Paint My Spirit Gold

I was reminded the other day that I have a blog.  Perhaps I should use it, eh?

Recent events in my life have caused what feels like a whirlwind to sweep through.  Allow me to elaborate.  (1) Work has been hella busy.  Not just busy, “hella” busy.  Which is certainly a good thing — not to be misconstrued in any way as a complaint.  I’ve had some crazy court battles lately.  I’ve had a judge provide commentary on the life of a pimp, went head to head with an opposing counsel and came out on top (I had been dreading this opposing counsel for quite a while, and I’m pretty proud to say I took her down), and won my first traffic court trial.  So yeah, it has been manic in a way, but I seem to be getting fairly good results for the most part.  Which is all you can ask for in this business, right?

(2) I am now a Big through Big Brothers Big Sisters.  I have a little sister, she is 7 (almost 8) and she is quite a character!  We have been matched a little over a month now, and I think it is going pretty well.  We’ve gone to the zoo, we’ve fed ducks and played in the park, colored and watched Finding Nemo, and most recently we both helped serve the hungry at an area food pantry.  She is a very good helper.  This experience is going to go down as absolutely unforgettable, I can already tell.  I can also tell it is having a fairly big impact on me, in terms of my world view.  She just serves as a good reminder that we should all get out of our little comfort bubbles every once in a while and step into someone else’s shoes.

(3) Getting involved — I have recently been accepted into the Junior League of Kansas City, and it looks like that will gear up to start in June I think.  Adding that to my other activities may sound like a stretch, but I hope it won’t be.  It seems like it could provide a great opportunity for networking and getting to know some pretty key players in the Kansas City community.

(4) Homes — I have been pre-approved and am ready to become a home owner!!  I probably should have put this higher up on the list.  I went to look at my first batch of houses yesterday, and I have to admit, the whole process is slightly overwhelming.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s exciting too!  I just really want to make sure I don’t end up with buyer’s remorse, or a house I can’t really afford to maintain, or a mortgage I can’t afford in the first place.  I don’t think it will, but it just means the process will take some time, and I have to keep reminding myself to be patient.

(5) A week from today is my “golden” birthday!!  I will turn 28 on the 28th of April!  And boy, am I planning to do it up right!  I will be in Vegas as of Thursday, coming back Saturday.  Then on Sunday, I will hopefully be joined by several friends for a celebratory brunch, after which my sister is treating me to a Black Keys concert at the Sprint Center!  I don’t think it could get any better!

(6) Bangs — I got bangs on Friday.  After work I ran straight over to my stylist and said “quick, cut off my bangs before I change my mind!”  I don’t have a pic yet to show you, but I love them!  I needed that little change.

In a nutshell, that is my life from the last few months.  Or at least the highlights 🙂  I’ll have to try to update a little more frequently, so I don’t have to write a novel to catch you up.  Have a happy week everyone!
