Oscars in Review

Here is my take on the 83rd Oscars bash last night — the Oscars take themselves way too seriously.  They also were trying to do way too many things in one show.  For instance, they were trying to appeal to a younger demographic by having Anne Hathaway and James Franco host. (Kinda random choices I think).  However, younger hosts don’t automatically transform the viewing audience into today’s youth.  So the Oscars tried to keep their octogenarian audience entertained by using a holographic Bob Hope, a slightly botoxed Billy Crystal, and Kirk Douglas who was mostly unintelligible.  I’m sorry to say that the age gap was not bridged…not even a little.

All that is ok though, because the Oscars boil down to the penultimate award during the ever-increasing awards season.  I almost think the strength of the Oscar has diminished over the years with each addition of an awards show.  By the time you get to the Oscars, there aren’t really any surprises anymore.  If they won a golden globe and a SAG award, its pretty much a lock.

Keep in mind, this is coming from someone who tries to watch the Oscars every year.
